2nd May 2016 – The World’s Shortest Fun Run World Record Attempt – in Burntwood

WORLD’S SHORTEST FUN RUN FUN FEAST!!

They came from far and wide, from Kansas USA and Cornwall and from Lichfield, Birmingham and Tamworth but mainly Burntwood in Staffordshire. Why?

The 2nd WORLD’S SHORTEST FUN RUN and it attracted hundreds to the UK’s smallest park, Prince’s Park in Burntwood today to help raise money for the local WeLoveLichfield charity fund.

Fancy dress was order of the day with costumed guests Dick Dastardly, Evil Knievil, Cat in the Hat, Elvis, Lisa Simpson, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and The Stig plus princesses, Batmen, Spidermen, disco dancers, pensioners, local charities, families, lots of happy children (youngest 6 weeks!) prams, pushchairs, wheelchairs plus scores of pet dogs of every breed and colour, all there to complete the 55 steps in any way they could and just have a go and create miles of smiles in the process.

Pam Stokes Chairperson at Burntwood Town Council officially started the proceedings and enjoyed watching the crowds and the ‘runners’ taking part: “Brilliant!! What an atmosphere!! Loved every minute!”

Kevin Wilson of organisers KP Events agreed: “I’ve been involved in a lot of events over a lot of years but this has to be up there as a favourite simply because it is all about the taking part that counts!! The atmosphere it creates is unique, everybody present brings something to that atmosphere, it doesn’t matter if you can run or not, not one jot, just get round this little park however you like, take as long as you like, just do it!!” And they did, in their hundreds!!
