HALLIDAY STORMS TO VICTORY IN MONSOON STYLE 10K
The first ever KINGSBURY WATER PARK 10K was held on Sunday October 3rd and the event took place in conditions that bordered on boundaries between monsoon and flood as the Water Park was hit by rain that fell virtually continuously for 8 hours following a week of steady rain previously.
Despite the heavy conditions, over hundred and fifty competitors entered to take part and the 2 lap 5k circuit through one of the region’s prettiest off-road parklands, proved to be a tough challenge for even the most hardy and experienced of athletes.
On the first lap, 3 athletes were in contention with Andrew Halliday, Marcus MacDonald and Steven Ruck forging a breakaway that broke away from the main body of the field at the particularly waterlogged 3-4k mark where it was similar to bog like conditions under foot before the 4k-5k returned athletes to relatively stable conditions underfoot. Race Review
On a sweltering hot morning, nearly 200 runners showed up for the first ever Sutton Runner Sutton Park 10k on Sunday May 23rd in Birmingham’s premier open space Sutton Park.
Near 28°C degree heat caused several runners to pull out after the first of the two 5k loops but Kevin Loundes refused to let the conditions phase him and he won in a creditable 35.34 on a course with two particularly tough inclined sections. Second was Marcus MacDonald in 37.33 and was Brian Maynard third in 38.03.
First woman athlete was Christine Bishop in 43.29 More >
