A record number of entries took part in the XTREME (MUD) CHALLENGE at Catton Hall Estate Sunday the 9th Feb 2014. The conditions underfoot were just horrible and super muddy but we’ve had lots of superb feedback – seems like the tougher the conditions the more you love the Xtreme.
The weather on the day was kind, shame about the previous 5 weeks deluge of rain turning underfoot conditions into something resembling a quagmire of biblical proportions!!
The hazards were plenty (mudslides, electric fences, cargo nets, water tunnels, prickly undergrowth, smoke bombs, fences, impassable inclines, wind and more) but the record entry whooped and hollered like mad things and a great day was had by all. Well done you mud champions !!
Connor Hancock led out a record entry field from the start on an even tougher course designed by us, KP Events. Connor seemed at times to be running on top of the mud as he flew round in a time of 41:07 well ahead of 2012 winner Robert Hall second in 42:13 and Chris McCabe third in 44:46. A record number of female runners entered this year and first home was Laura Appleby in 55.41, 2nd was Heidi Hunt in 57:28 ahead of Jen Seager in 58:47.
