Run for charity
The Solihull Group of the Multiple Sclerosis Society is delighted to be the chosen charity of KP Events for the 2020 Solihull Half Marathon.
Multiple Sclerosis is a disease which affects the
nervous system. In MS, the body’s immune
system attacks the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. The coating around the nerve fibres (myelin)
is damaged, and this then interrupts messages from the brain to the body.
The Group provides support for those people living in the Solihull area who have MS and their families. This is done in a variety of ways – they:
have a specially adapted minibus to take people on social
run physio, exercise and activity classes with trained
hold drop-in sessions and social events
provide a help line which gives advice and guidance
offer complimentary therapies and chiropody
However, they can only provide this support with the help of the local community. All the money they raise in Solihull is spent in Solihull. They are always looking for individuals who’d like to fundraise for them or organisations who would like to adopt them as their Charity of the Year. Please contact them on 07941 416303 if you need support or would like to support them!
If you’d like to take part in this event they can send you a fundraising pack which contains a t-shirt or vest, sponsor form and fundraising tips. Just go to http://tiny.cc/MSSolihullHalf – then ‘Sign Me Up’ and follow the links from there. Remember to indicate that you want the money you raise to go to the Solihull Group. Any problems, just give them a call on 07941 416303.

The city centre finish to the race affords a stunning view of Lichfield Cathedral, making this arguably one of the most visually spectacular finishes to a half-marathon anywhere in the world.
Event starts: in 3 months,11 days,22 hours,20 minutes,27 seconds.
We are delighted to announce that we have a new sponsor for this event. Four Oaks Financial Services is a well-respected firm of Financial Advisers based in Lichfield and will be the event sponsors for 2020 and 2021.
Now in its 10th year, this popular half-marathon is already filling up fast, and we are anticipating more runners than ever before.
You can enter at a discounted price of £10 if you opt
to run for either of the two good causes Four Oaks Financial Services is
The two good causes are Buddy Bag Foundation, which is a charity that helps children that find themselves in women’s refuges after fleeing from domestic abuse. And, the other good cause is to raise money to buy an ECG Heart Rate Monitor for Avon 3 Ward at Worcester Royal Infirmary. This follows the death of George, father-in-law of Four Oaks Financial Services’ Managing Director, Martin Ward.
George had received amazing care at the Worcester Royal Infirmary for 6 weeks, but on the day he died, he needed an ECG machine to check his heart. There are only 3 in the entire hospital and it took over an hour for the machine to arrive. He died later that day from heart failure. Members of the Ward family will be running for the ECG machine and a number of the Four Oaks staff raising money for Buddy Bag Foundation.
You can opt to run for either of these good causes on our on-line entry system. Four Oaks Financial Services has been providing financial advice to people in Lichfield and across the region for many years. They have a unique holistic approach to financial planning click here to find out more.

Lichfield’s very own Festive Santa Dash 8th Dec took place in aid of local charity Shining Stars set up by Charlotte Aspley to provide nightclub experiences for adults with learning difficulties. Scores of people, young, not quite as young, dressed in festive attire to bring Stowe Field to life as they run around Stowe Pool and then into the Festive Food Festival taking place in the city centre. And Father Christmas was there in person with his friends from Lichfield Round table and even had time to lead the runners round the 2k course on his push bike.
Despite a week of rain and floods in Castle Grounds the Tamworth 10k was a huge success with a record turnout and large crowds present to cheers on the runners.
The race was won by Phil Wolfe (36:01) who finished strongly to hold off a determined challenge from Robert Dyjak who finished a close second (36:06). Daniel Floyd finished third (36:11)
First female athlete home was Olivia Harris who recorded a fast time of 39.51. Two athletes closely contested positions behind her but eventually Erin Bush came second (41:46), just ahead of third-placed Jess Owen.
PHOTOS: Phil Wolfe 576, Robert Dyjak 531, Daniel Floyd 647, Olivia Harris 615, Erin Bush 542, Jess Owen 438.
A special mention for our charity partner the Stan Bowley Trust and the fantastic show by their race team, and also Tamworth based good cause Simon’s Heroes who celebrated their long association with the event with a massive turnout of runners and supporters (see photo below).
Paul and myself (Kevin) want to thank you our runners for all your support, understanding and then participation in the Tamworth 10k.
The past week has been very difficult with the weather and its effect on conditions in and around the town in general but Castle Grounds in particular, we tried to keep you guys fully up to speed and you repaid us big time with your fantastic appreciation and feedback. We really do appreciate it as we try to deliver high-quality and value for money events.
I also want to thank our marshals. They were all brilliant yesterday, we’ve never had so much positive feedback about our marshals as yesterday so thank you our friends from the Stan Bowley Trust and Lichfield Rugby Club plus our own friends and families. You all do a great job.
And our KP Events staff team (Angelo, Gary, Nick) who were out sweeping water from the large puddles and setting up in the rain from 6.30 am. And then clearing up post event so nobody would know we’d been on site.
And finally our friends at the Events Team at Tamworth Borough Council (Laura and Simon) and the Parks Dept staff, all so helpful and supportive. And our new social media person Amie who only joined us the Wednesday before the race. She has been a real star!!
If we’ve forgotten anybody we’re sorry, you were good too! Kevin
